Correction Procedures Types of procedures: If you want to reduce your dependency on glasses or contact lenses, there are several options available, whether you are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. In order to understand the different surgical options, you may want to first review the information on how the eye works. There are several types of Refractive surgery available: LASIK, Clear Lens Extraction (PHASER), INTACS and RK. LASIK and INTACS all have to do with reshaping the cornea of the eye. Clear Lens Extraction involves removing the eye's natural lens and replacing it with either a Multifocal or Monofocal lens implant. PHASER, using the multifocal lens implant, is the only refractive procedure that can recreate the eye's ability to see clearly in the distance and up close without glasses—for life. (By this we mean that most refractive surgery procedures last only until you get cataracts. PHASER prevents you from ever getting cataracts.) Each procedure has it's own benefits and drawbacks as none of these are 100% guaranteed to bring your vision to 20/20. The comparison chart will give you an overview of the similarities and differences between all options. |
