Considerations
- RK is a permanent
surgery to the cornea: it cannot be reversed.
- The goal of RK is to
reduce the dependence on eyeglasses and/or contact lenses, NOT to
provide perfect or near perfect vision. While some patients may achieve
perfect vision after refractive surgery, perfect vision should NOT BE
EXPECTED.
- RK does not involve
the use of a laser.
- Patients must
understand all alternative methods for vision. correction including
LASIK, INTACS, PHASER, RK and AK surgery.
- Military personnel and
applicants from other occupations where good uncorrected vision is a
necessity should check with their superior prior to any refractive
procedure to be sure that such procedure would not cause them to be
ineligible for current or any future duties.
- It may be necessary to
have both eyes treated to achieve a satisfactory result.
